The ranges
KRATOS SAFETY now provides you with different product ranges so that you can choose them more easily for your uses at work and save time. These products correspond to very specific situations, such as confined spaces, the risk of sparks, or an explosive atmosphere. This article, created in collaboration with the KRATOS SAFETY Training Center, therefore presents the different ranges as well as the needs they meet.
Fire-resistant range (Fire Free)
On a welding or grinding site at height, the risk of falling is ever-present, but it is not the only one. A spark or a spatter of molten metal touching a standard harness, and the danger comes from the webbing itself. On contact with fire, polyamides and polyesters burn, melt and lose their mechanical strength. This damage is sometimes difficult to see with the naked eye, and the user continues to trust faulty equipment.
FIRE FREE harnesses, lanyards and anchor slings are therefore manufactured with a specific treatment and aramid sewing threads. This range, compliant with the EN 361:2002 standard and tested according to ISO 9150 and 15025, provides better fire resistance. Originally designed at the request of workers in shipbuilding and structural steelwork, two sectors where welding and work at height are combined on a daily basis, this range is very well suited to any trade exposed to sparks: boilermaking sites, industrial maintenance, metalworking, and more.

Electrical range (DIELECTRI)
Some working environments expose the operator to situations where there is both a risk of falling and a risk of contact with live parts. It is sometimes impossible to switch off the power. This impossibility must be taken into account in the risk assessment, and the choice of electrically insulated PPE forms part of a strict prevention process.
KRATOS SAFETY has developed a range of specific electrically insulated PPE, lanyards and harnesses, perfectly suited to this type of situation:
• Work on low- and medium-voltage overhead electrical networks or in the vicinity of electrical installations kept live
• During work on poles, pylons or aerial work platforms with combined risk
• In certain maintenance operations on industrial electrical installations when safety distances cannot be fully guaranteed.

Confined space range (ADÈS)
Confined spaces can be of very varied natures. They are structures that were not designed to be permanently occupied, with totally or partially enclosed volumes, and in which the atmosphere may present risks to the health and safety of the people who enter them. Besides the atmosphere, these environments, often without lighting, are frequently damp, dirty and filled with mud or clay that can affect operators' equipment.
Our CATEC range was specially developed at the request of training centres awarding the certificate of aptitude for working in confined spaces in the drinking water and wastewater treatment sector. This range incorporates a surface treatment of the webbing, limiting the penetration of dust, oils and water inside the fibres. This treatment guarantees a longer service life for the PPE. In addition, two retroreflective threads are integrated along the entire length of the webbing used, making it possible to spot an unconscious person lying in a dark or obstructed space more quickly.
Attachment D-rings have been added on the shoulders of the ADÈS harness in order to facilitate access to or evacuation from small vertical spaces such as chimneys or access shafts. This harness complies with the EN 1497:2007 standard.

Gamme Atmosphère Explosible (FREE BLAST)
In explosive atmospheres (ATEX), sparks are the main hazard that can cause explosions. An electrostatic discharge generated simply by the friction of a synthetic fibre may be enough to ignite a mixture of vapour, gas or flammable dust. Here, therefore, the risk does not always stem from the electrical or mechanical equipment used on site; it may come directly from the PPE worn by the operator.
The risk assessment determines whether certified antistatic equipment is required. The FREE BLAST range has been developed for this type of environment. It complies with standards EN 13463-1:2009 and ISO 80079-36:2016 + ISO 80079-37:2016, certifying its suitability for use in ATEX Zone 1, and with EN 1149-1:2006, ensuring the dissipation of electrostatic charges accumulated on the equipment.
