Rope access selection guide

According to the EN 365 standard

EN 365 (§4.2.2.e): During any work at height, the contracting company must draw up a risk-prevention plan that mandatorily includes “a rescue plan (…) in order to deal with any emergency that may arise during the work”.
Regarding its practical use:
Rope access is a technique for progressing on a rope when conventional access methods cannot be used. Rope access is often used in places that are difficult to reach, very often at height, without using equipment such as scaffolding or elevating work platforms.

What to choose?

As with any work situation, rope work requires high-performance equipment suited to your tasks.

First of all, it is essential to analyse the movements that will need to be made, as they will determine whether the chosen products must allow ascent, descent, or both combined.

Points to not overlook

In addition to the chosen products, the following must not be overlooked:
• The harness: it must include a ventral (front) attachment point, positioned as low as possible, to make movement easier;
• The anchor point(s).

Finally, for all these techniques, training in the use of the products is ESSENTIAL (89/655/EC Art. 7 & 2001/45/EC Annex II §4.4.f).
