Load fall arresters selection guide

Selection guide for load fall arresters

Load fall arresters are designed to stop the fall of a load (such as a basketball backboard, a lighting bar, etc.) over a short distance in the event of a failure of the chain or of the load's main supporting cable, or of a failure of the components holding the load at height. Load fall arresters fall under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. With this specific selection guide, you will know how to choose the KRATOS SAFETY load fall arrester best suited to your needs.

Details by reference

The LA10 references are read as follows:
LA10 = Load Arrester

250 = Maximum load the load fall arrester can support (kg)

10 = Cable length (m)

The summary table

This table summarises all the elements needed to choose the load fall arrester suited to your needs. This selection guide nevertheless adds nuance and detail to the information provided opposite.

The load

The choice of model must be suited to the mass of the load to be secured; the maximum permissible mass is indicated on the fall arrester, but they are also able to work with a lower load, or even a higher one when a block-and-tackle (pulley) system is used. (See table)

The travel speed

The travel speed of the load must be taken into account; it must remain lower than the arrester's locking speed. (See table)

The travel distance

The travel distance of the load must be compatible with the length of cable housed in the device; it must also take into account a cable reserve needed to arrest a fall at the end of the cable.

The stopping distance

The stopping distance must remain compatible with the free space available below the load when it reaches its lowest position. (See table)

Number of cycles

The number of cycles per day may be lower or higher than the value indicated in the table; this value is used to calculate the periodic inspection intervals.

With this guide, you now have everything you need to correctly choose the load fall arrester you need to work at height with comfort and safety on a daily basis. Choose KRATOS SAFETY today.
