Headlamps selection guide

Headlamps

Headlamps make it possible to work properly in environments where it is difficult to have the visibility needed to carry out a task, whether in a confined space, during night work, or otherwise. Each situation has its own selection criteria, whether the lighting power, the waterproofing, the beam width, the colour of the light, or the practicality. This selection guide gives you the keys to choosing the KRATOS SAFETY headlamp suited to your needs.

The different types of beam

There are two types of lighting for headlamps, and it is important to anticipate the tasks you will have to carry out in order to choose the beam best suited to your needs:

The wide beam / ambient lighting: it gives an overall view of the work area. It is essential to have this beam if the user has to move around.

The focused beam: it provides a much more concentrated spot so as to be able to see details, as is the case in a situation where an electrician has to work on an electrical box in a confined space.
In both cases, when two people are working side by side, it is important to take care not to dazzle your colleague; this is why the focused beam may be more suitable in this context, to see a more precise point without disturbing the other worker.

There are also so-called “mixed” beam lamps that can provide focused or wide lighting depending on requirements.

The different lighting colours

Warm white

Shade tending towards yellow, more comfortable for the eye, less sharp on contrasts

Cool white

For poorly lit places, improves 3D vision and increases contrasts

Red

Preserves night vision, does not dazzle and the eye adapts very easily

According to the work environment

Depending on the environment where you work, various precautions must be taken to choose your headlamp:

If you work in an environment with an Explosive Atmosphere, it is essential to choose an ATEX Zone 0 lamp in order to minimise the risks with suitable equipment.

If you work in a damp environment, waterproofing must also be taken into account.

Additional elements to take into account

For reasons of comfort and practicality, some lamps have additional features that may lead you to choose certain of our models over others:
Regarding the battery, two cases are possible. The first is to have a battery fixed to the lamp, which means you cannot work while it is charging. The second is to have a battery that can be removed so that another can be fitted. This makes it possible to charge one battery while another is in use, which is more practical.

In addition, some headlamps have touchless (gesture) lighting, which therefore turns on and off with a simple gesture detected in front of the lamp, so you can work more comfortably with both hands free.

Finally, 3 of our models can be clipped onto your helmet using a clip. This is the case for the Newton 2, Newton 3 and Newton 4, to ensure excellent stability of the lamp whatever your movements.
