2 in 1 fall arrest system with pre-incorporated evacuation feature, 30 mtr

Fall arrest system sliding on Kernmantle rope with integrated grip descender on anchorage point, allowing to release the anchorage point and to descend the victim.

This assembly allows anticipating the rescue system even before installing the fall arrester.

Having several different anchorage straps, this kit can be installed on a multitude of supports (ladder, pylon, large-sized structures,...).

RESCUE AND EVACUATION

THE BASICS OF RESCUE AND EVACUATION

During works at height, an accident can happens, and the intervention of a rescue worker can be necessary to evacuate the victim.

In this case, the rescue worker shall take action in an emergency situation. THE GOLDEN RULE in such a case is to PREVENT ANOTHER ACCIDENT FROM HAPPENING.

As a consequence, and before any intervention, the rescue worker should ask himself/herself the following questions:

  • Is there any residual hazard further to the accident (electrical hazard, presence of gas, ...)?
  • Am I capable to intervene (physical capacity, psychological capacity, technical capacity, ..)?
  • Do I have full control of the rescue plan (calling the emergency services, ...) and do I master the operating mode of evacuation?
  • Have I been SPECIFICALLY trained for the rescue operations that I am going to implement? (OBLIGATION of the Directive 89/655/CEE Article 7 et Annexe ll §4.4.f (Directive 2001/45/CE)).

Then the rescue worker shall be able to intervene in accordance with the rescue plan defined beforehand; their priorities shall be the following:

  • Securing the victim,
  • Get the victim off inert suspension in the shortest time,
  • Await the emergency services in the best conditions.

Every situation is unique, and requires adapted material. When establishing the evacuation plan defining the human and material means to be implemented, it is essential to distinguish between the main following situations:

  • Evacuation in confined space,
  • Self-evacuation on fixed post,
  • Evacuation on site (multi-situation, one or several victims),
  • Evacuation on ski lift.

WARNING: DURING RESCUE AND EVACUATION OPERATIONS, THE RESCUE WORKER MUST BE:

FALL ARRESTER

EN353-1 :

A fall arrester on rigid anchor line is a device that automatically blocks and stops on the vertical support when the user falls. The anchor line can be a cable (rigid) or rail. Breaking strength of these systems> 15 kN.

EN353-2 :

A fall arrester on flexible anchor line is a device that automatically blocks and stops on the vertical support when the user falls. The anchor line can be a cable (flexible) or a rope (twisted or braided). These flexible anchor lines must be weighted with a counterweight. Breaking strength of these systems> 15 kN.

EN360 :

A retractable fall arrester is a device equipped with a lanyard (on cable or webbing) kept in tension. It follows the movements of user. The system blocks and stops automatically when the user falls. These come in different lengths. Breaking strength > 12 kN (for cable lanyard) or > 15kN (for textile lanyard)

Whatever the fall arrest system choosen (fall arrester on anchor line, retractable fall arrester, energy absorbing lanyard) it guarantees a fall arrest by limiting the impact on the human body at 6kN maxi.

Use:
It is used only in a job that requires significant amplitude of movements.

Trades:
The fall arresters on anchor line are mainly used for the following professions: works on pylons, works on rock wall, works on lifts, window cleaner, rope access, rescue, roofer, roofing felt fixer, telecommunication, maintenance...

The retractable fall arresters are used instead for the following professions: Works on facade, on the terrace, on scaffolding, on aerial lift, and maintenance..

How to choose ?

The choice of the fall arrest system must be based on the movement to perform. Obviously, for the choice of the fall arrest system, the position of the anchor point must be considered.

If the movement is purely vertical (along a scale for example) we always favour a fall arrester on anchor line.

They have the advantage of being installed (for some) permanently on the structure.

If the movement can be horizontal & vertical, we will prefer a retractable fall arrester.

It's the fall arrest system that brings greatest freedom of movements.

The fall arrester on anchor line must always be used directly below the anchor point.

The retractable fall arresters are ideal for work of low-rise because the blockage is almost instantaneous, limiting the required clearance.

For the work on an inclined plane with fall arrester on anchor line, it is necessary that it be equipped with a manual locking system.
